The Aspen can go as high as 30 m. and its leaves may measure 5 to 10 cm in length.
The heart-shaped leaves are very much distinguished from other type of leaves. These are typical of poplars. The name comes from the teeth that the leaf forms.
In North America, the aspen is referred to as quaking aspen or trembling aspen because the leaves "quake" or tremble in the wind. This is due to their flattened petioles which reduce aerodynamic drag on the trunk and branches.
